TRUFFLE OIL: HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF IT?

Have you bought a fresh truffle and, for fear of not knowing how to use it, decided to put it in olive oil to preserve it, while making a delicious truffle oil?

All of us who have bought fresh truffles have done so at some point because at first, it seems like an excellent idea to get two products with just one, to preserve the truffle for longer and also to obtain a truffle oil.

The problem appears when we do not know exactly how to use this oil, since it has an intense truffle aroma that does not combine with the same things as a conventional olive oil.

Today we have decided to show you different ways to get the most out of that truffle oil that you have made but that you have forgotten in the kitchen, let's get to it.

How is truffle oil made?

Before we start, we need a quality oil to be able to make it, such as olive oil.

Olive oil is one of the pillars of the Mediterranean diet and is recognized worldwide for its healthy properties and flavor.

Above all, the oil from our area, the olive oil from Aragon, is the one that stands out for its quality, an oil with a Designation of Origin.

So, how do we get a truffle oil from this?

Well, it is very simple, you only need to put a fresh truffle of the size you prefer (the larger it is, the more flavor it will provide) in a jar with oil and wait, after a few days or months (depending on how much you want to let it marinate), you will obtain an oil with a delicious truffle aroma.

Truffle oil combines the flavor and aroma of extra virgin olive oil with the flavor and aroma of black truffle. You can also make it with other types of oil, although we recommend that you use extra virgin olive oil, as it is a quality oil.

How do I use it to taste it well?

Once we have our truffle oil, what can we do with it?

It is essential that you know that the food combinations that work best with this oil are the same ones that you would use to accompany a dish with truffle, that is, meats, eggs, potatoes, etc.

Any food that enhances its flavor will combine wonderfully with it, although what we recommend most is that you toast a few slices of your favorite bread and enjoy it alone, generously sprinkling the toast with it and adding a little flaky salt.

This is how you will best appreciate the nuances that the truffle brings to the olive oil.

HOW CAN WE GET THE MOST OUT OF TRUFFLE OIL?

What if I want to make something more elaborate with the oil?

Truffle oil can be added either "raw", which means that the aroma and intense flavour of the truffle is not lost, or to the already prepared dish to give it that earthy taste of the truffle.

If you want to give a gourmet touch to your preparations and you don't know how, here are some ideas to inspire you:

  • Pasta with truffle oil: once it is al dente, drain it and put it back in the pot. Add truffle oil to taste and mix well to coat the pasta.
  • Salad with truffle oil: prepare your salad and dress it with truffle oil, balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper.
  • French fries with truffle oil: cut the potatoes into thin slices and fry them in oil until golden. Once removed from the heat, drain them well to remove excess oil and add the truffle oil.
  • Risotto: add truffle oil and give a new touch to your usual mushroom risotto.

And now that we've given you some ideas for using your truffle oil, what are you waiting for to put them into practice?

In Teruel we are in the black truffle harvesting season, so if you haven't gotten your hands on one yet, perhaps this is the best time to take advantage and get your quality truffle oil while enjoying all the flavour of the black truffle at its optimum point of ripeness.

And if you're too lazy to make your own truffle oil, you can also get it ready-made in our shop.
